My dad and I just went to see the movie Avatar the other day (meaning within the last 72 hours, of course). I really had no expectations going into the movie, and was actually quite wary of the 2.5 hours plus experience I was about to subject myself to. But since it seemed to fit into the category of movies that my dad and I go to on the rare occasion we get to see each other, we gave it a shot. And I could not have been more surprised.
I know that this movie will most likely, primarily be judged on it's graphical fidelity. Which is a shame. Not that the CGI in this movie is lacking, quite the opposite, I was constantly taken aback by the realism of the computer graphics and the imagination of the concept artists in creating this alien world. No, it is a shame, because this movie is so much more than just the technology behind it. I felt that Avatar had a true heart and soul to it with which I connected. And, well...Pandora is such a beautiful world too.
Now something I must put down, as clarification for future posts. Especially as I will probably comment on future movies I watch or games I play. I've rarely met a movie or video game that I don't like. I know that sounds undiscerning, and maybe that's true. I guess I just grade on a forgiving curve. Normally if there is one thing about a movie/game that I can enjoy, I'll focus on that aspect and look past the rough parts. I'll mention two examples:
Equilibrium. Probably one of my favorite movies of all time. Yes, you read that right. Is it a good movie? Not really. Well, not at all. But I like the action...and Christian Bale's acting. I like the pacing. Looking at these aspects, I can look past the unoriginal and implausible story and bad (for the most part) acting.
New Legends. For the Xbox. Any of you who played it, probably hated it. But I actually really liked it. The gameplay was buggy and flawed, the graphics were on par with N64 graphics (and not even the best that system could offer), and it was very repetitive. However, I loved the weapon selection, and how I felt that I had such options when it came to combat, and the variety of weapons which I had gathered.
The reason I've gone on this mini tirade (>.>)....well, it's kind of late at the moment...and I'm just saying that it is very likely that a lot of people won't agree with what I say here in this blog, but I guess that really doesn't matter. I may like a lot of lemons, but I have my reasons and...there you go.
Now, it's time to sleep. More later.
